American House Now: Contemporary Architectural Directions (Revised and Expanded). The houses in this volume share a common point of origin: all draw upon the established principles of American Modernism. At the same time, they differ markedly from one another and in so doing demonstrate the diversity implicit in that style. At one end of the spectrum are the cerebral, unviolated sculptural forms of Richard Meier's Grotta House; at the other end is the rugged expressionism of Eric Owen Moss's Lawson/Western House. The collection represents both established American architects, such as Meier and John Lautner; such internationally known contemporaries as Stephen Holt, Mark Mack, and Arquitectonica; and newcomers Carlos Zapata and UKZ. |
