The Thin Black Line: True Stories by Black Law Enforcement Officers Policing America's Meanest Streets : Joining the Chicago Police Department after his return from Vietnam in the late 1960s, Hugh Holton became part of the first generation of African-Americans to enter law enforcement in significant numbers. In The Thin Black Line, some of these black law enforcement officers describe their most courageous and outrageous exploits.
