The Golden Mountain Murders : It is after 9/11 but before Iraq. Shanghai has surpassed Hong Kong as Asia's most important city. The office of Special Investigations is running smoothly. Fong's personal life is stabilizing. Then a late night phone call startles Fong into waking. The anonymous caller claims that there is an AIDS epidemic in far of Anhui province. He alleges that Chinese blood collectors - paid by a firm in the West - spread the deadly contagion and the Chinese government officials are growing rich by turning a blind eye to the trade. The call starts Fong on the longest journey of his life, beginning in the far reaches of the Anhui province and ending on the streets of Vancouver, Canada - the Golden Mountain. But unbeknownst to Fong he is not alone on his travels. Every step he takes is noted by the head of the Guild of Assassins and the teacher of Loa Wei Fek, the master assassin whom Fong killed in a construction pit in the Pudong nine years earlier.
