The Conversion : Russell Todaro, a young American translator, wakes up one morning in Pars to find his lover, an older lauded American poet, dead. Russell is left alone without a place to stay and in possession of his lover's much-anticipated, mysterious, and controversial memoir. An Italian writer with motivations of her own invites Russell to recuperate at her grand, storied villa in Tuscany. Driven by the demons of a doomed love affair that preceded his tepid relationship with the poet, he enters a world of political intrigue, assassination threats, and the ghosts of the villa's rich past. Trapped between his romantic disappointments and the uncertainty of his own future, Russell is forced to reconcile his past with his present, finally facing the realities behind his own obsessions.
