The Oath: A Surgeon Under Fire : In August 1994, as Russian troops massed along the border of the Republic of Chechnya, Khassan Baiev left his surgical practice in Moscow to help people caught in the war zone. In this memoir, he recounts six harrowing years of tending to residents, refugees, and soldiers from both sides of the conflict under very difficult and dangerous conditions. He also explains the background of the Chechen- Russian conflict.
